FeelFree Kayaks : Kayak Dealer Spotlight

FeelFree Kayaks : Kayak Dealer Spotlight

Recently the Feelfree digital ninja Colby Sexton stopped by our Farmville store and filmed us doing our thing. He then pieces together this rather excellent spotlight on us and our history in paddlesports.

We think it’s rad! Check it out :

Where do you go to school and what are you studying?

     Longwood University :

Major - English (Concentration - Professional Writing & Rhetoric)

    Minor: Children's Literature

Is this your first summer at ARC? When did you start and why did you want to work here?

Yes! I started in January as a Part-Time help and started Full Time this summer. I love getting people out on the water and Appomattox River Company seemed like a perfect place to make that happen.

Unloading tractor trailer loads of kayaks, awesome? Or not awesome?

Unloading tractor trailers has its charms. Above all it builds character. Awesome to see boats fresh from the factory.

We like to have fun here. Do you have a funny story or memory from this summer?

My favorite memories all involve Al and Bo telling stories and teaching. Al giving Guy and I a workshop on how to build a log cabin is definitely up there.

What’s the hot music on your Walkman right now?

     The Lumineers.

    Rayland Baxter

    Rainbow Kitten Surprise

What Big Al or warehouse lesson will you take with you back to school?

    Gravity always wins.

If it's too easy, you did something wrong.

You only have to be 10% smarter than what you're working with."

Will you be back? We miss you already.

Yep. Back like I never left. Staying on as part-time help this Fall.

Where do you go to school and what are you studying?

I am majoring in Environmental Studies, hoping to focus in Policy at Sewanee: The University of the South

Is this your first summer at ARC? When did you start and why did you want to work here?

This is my second summer here at ARC. I started working here last summer because I am passionate about outdoor recreation.

Unloading tractor trailer loads of kayaks, awesome? Or not awesome?

I'll be honest, it is hard work, but it's a labor of love.

We like to have fun here. Do you have a funny story or memory from this summer?

One time Vince came back to the warehouse after reviewing the stats of each member of the sales team, he said that I got his attention. I thought it must be because I sell a lot more boats than he thought. No, turns out it was just because my name was in the system incorrectly as Gay Wall.

What’s the hot music on your Walkman right now?

Walkmans died with Slim Shady in the early 2000's.

What Big Al or warehouse lesson will you take with you back to school?

Al taught me many things over this summer, but the most memorable lesson is the one he gave me on how to build a log cabin.

Will you be back? We miss you already.

Once you join the Paddleva family, you never really leave.

Is this your first summer at ARC? When did you start and why did you want to work here?
No. Started in May 2017. I wanted people to think I was outdoorsy and cool for selling kayaks. It also seemed better than Walmart or the food industry. I was right.

Unloading tractor trailer loads of kayaks, awesome? Or not awesome?
Not awesome. I don't even help unload them and I know it's not awesome.

Kayaking and Camping with Kids is Fun

Kayaking and Camping with Kids is Fun
“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.”
    - John Burroughs
There is magic to be found in the joy of kids playing outside. But the true life-affirming moments happen when you choose to join them in that joy.
My 7yr old daughter recently made me a card with the above Burroughs quote. She's learned where her mother's and my passions lie. We are a family that celebrates the bounty of our outdoors. We know many of y'all do as well.
Let's all endeavor to remind our friends and families just how much happiness can be found out there. Because it feels like we all need it.
