Appomattox River Company · Since 1977
Virginia's paddlesports specialists for nearly fifty years
Some shops sell boats. We've spent nearly five decades getting people onto the water — and we're just getting started.
Our Story
It started with one paddler and one river.
Appomattox River Company has been Virginia's canoe and kayak specialty store since 1977 — long enough to have grown up right alongside the sport itself. We were here for the first sit-on-tops, the first pedal drives, the rise of kayak fishing, and the day stand-up paddleboards showed up on every lake in the state.
Founder Bob Taylor fell in love with paddlesports canoeing the creeks and rivers of Virginia — including the Appomattox River that still runs alongside our warehouse and gave the company its name. That passion became a single shop in Farmville and, over the decades, the largest canoe and kayak specialty store in the region.
We didn't follow the paddlesports industry. We helped build it
Ask anyone on our staff and they'll tell you the legacy isn't the size of the showroom — it's the thousands of paddlers we've put in exactly the right boat.
