Spring has fully sprung into full-fledged summer! The action on the water is heating up and all the local guys are getting after it. Reports seem to be surfacing daily, loaded with awesome photos and nuggets of intel. You want to know what's been happening? Read the reports. You want to plan for next year? Read the reports. You just want to see pics of giant fish? Read the reports. You want tips and hints? Dig into the reports.
Here is what has been going down on our local waterways. This is how these guys PaddleVa.
First up: Kayak Kevin Whitley- Ocean Kayak/ Old Town Canoe & Kayak/ Aqua-Bound/ Bending Branches/ Kokatat, ARC- Hampton Employee. Below is a link to Kayak Kevin's blog page where you can find his Spring Red Run entries for last month as well as a host of other excellent intel. Red Drum Jesus has been for a long time, and continues to be, the man. If you don't know, ask somebody. Just look for the highlight below the photo.
Second up: Rob Choi - Ocean Kayak/ Old Town Canoe & Kayak/ Werner Paddles/ Kokatat/ YakAttack. Rob posted a couple of great blogs about his Spring Red Run including one where he slung his fly rod at schools of stripers! Rob is the consummate professional, targeting and catching big fish, and doing it with style. Just look for the highlight below the photos.
Check out Rob Choi's awesome reports.
Third up: Joe Underwood - Powerteam Lures Pro in his Hobie Pro Angler 14. Joe is an excellent all around fisherman. He always seems to "show up" when it's game time. From bass to big reds, Joe knows fishing. Just look for the highlight below the photo.
Check out Joe Underwood's grest write-up on his Spring Reds.
Fourth up: Richie Bekolay - Ocean Kayak/ Old Town Canoe & Kayak/ Werner Paddles/Kokatat/ YakAttack/ Powerteam Lures. Richie will soon be shipping off to sunny Florida and he has been sticking fish like a man possessed! Richie is another mutli-faceted angler who always seems to perform on game day or any other day for that matter. We'll miss him, but we look forward to some awesome Florida reports! Just look for the highlight below the photo.
.
Fifth up: Jay Brooks- Wilderness Systems Fishing Kayaks. Jay recently returned from 7 months in Afghanistan and shook off the rust in true big baller fashion by doing a mother-ship trip in NC. It went pretty darn well. I met Jay at our Demo Day for the first time and I have to say, he's cooler in real life than he is on facebook. ;) All jokes aside, Jay's a hard charging angler that we're psyched to have back on the home waters. Just look for the highlight below the photo.
Usually Friday's Finds stop at five, but today I'm stretching it to six. Why? Drew Camp - Jackson Kayak/ Werner Paddles/ Powerteam Lures, that's why. We have a running commentary about Drew in our ARC-Farmville office. Every-time we get on Facebook, Drew's catching more fish than us! ;) Drew is a performer, plain and simple. I'm not sure he ever has a bad day. He's secretly one of our favorites around here and he's been busy as usual this spring and summer. From freshwater to saltwater, Drew is a baller. Find out why we love us some Drew and look for the highlight below the photo to read more.
Check out Drew Camp's excellent blog.
**Keep on the look out for more reports from these guys. We are very fortunate in the Va area to have such a strong community of paddlers, kayak anglers, and Pro Staff. If you've got a story about how you PAddleVa, share it with us on Facebook or Twitter. We'll be showcasing community stories all season.
