We're continuing our Holiday Gift Guide today, with suggestions for the whitewater paddlers you love (and probably worry about, at least a little). Whether you’re looking to outfit your family for fun or prefer they’d have a little less fun on the water, we have all the gear whitewater boaters need to paddle comfortably and safely in almost any conditions. Here are our top suggestions for your more adventurous relatives.
Immersion Research Shockwave Whitewater Skirt – Built for beginner to intermediate paddlers, the Shockwave is a high-quality neoprene skirt with bungee attachment and anti-implosion patches. The J-Lo Whitewater Skirt for women is the Shockwave’s sister model with a 2” shorter tunnel for a better female fit. These can be tricky to size correctly, because you'll need to know the model of your giftee's boat as well as the size of their torso. We can definitely help out here, though – just let us know these measurements and we'll recommend the right skirt. Pro tip: if you don't know their waist size, check out the sizes on a few pairs of their jeans and we can probably approximate.
Astral YTV Whitewater PFD – This lightweight and low-profile fit frees up your range of motion by keeping bulk out of the way. Simple side zip pockets and front knife tab are about the only accessories the YTV boasts, meaning less clutter and fewer things to catch on rocks and hangers during an unplanned swim.
Astral Green Jacket LE11 Cobra – If there’s a river guide in your life, Astral’s eleventh annual limited edition Green Jacket is an amazing gift. The Cobra vest combines the tried and true rescue vest features guides rely on with a collectible design paying tribute to the rivers of Chile.
Accent Rage Whitewater Paddle – The rage is a great entry-level paddle for any whitewater paddler. A fiberglass reinforced blade and composite shaft give this paddle strength and durability, so it’s a great paddle for new kayakers who might put it through a little more abuse.
Watersports Warehouse Hand Paddles – Even the best paddle won’t help you when you’ve lost it. A set of hand paddles easily stow in your boat for help in emergencies. They may not be pretty, but they’re good to have when you need them. Don’t find yourself up a creek without a paddle.
And for the ultimate gift (a new boat), we are getting the all-new Dagger Rewind in the next week or so, so stay tuned. For newer or intermediate paddlers on your list, we suggest the LiquidLogic Braaap for a river runner with a little play or a Dagger Mamba for someone starting out creeking.
An ideal stocking stuffer? How about the gift of a clean boat when the spring rolls around? Cockpit seals are the perfect way to keep boats clean and dry through the off season, so they're ready to roll again as soon as the weather warms up. With adjustable bungee rim attachments and UV protection, these handy little covers keep critters and rays out of boats stored outside or in the garage. Just note – you'll also need to know the boat model to size these.
As always, we are here to help with questions, sizing, and choosing boats and gear. We want you and everyone on your gift list to love the gear you buy here, so we hope you'll come in and let us help you with it. We're also doing free residential delivery in most of Virginia for the holidays!
