    Carlisle Paddle Gear

Appomattox River Company carries Carlisle canoe and kayak paddles.  More than 27 years ago, Ralph Stevens created the first Carlisle paddles with local guide companies in mind. He built his paddles to deliver the core strength and durability that expert guides need and was so successful that Carlisle has become one of the most widely known brands in paddlesports.

    Huntington Park, Newport News, VA

This is a great location for intermediate & advanced paddlers looking for some fun with the fetch across the James River with a West or Northwest wind, tidal currents, boating traffic and lack of "bailout" sites. One trip idea is to follow the shoreline NW past the shore side homes, the Mariners Museum Park (Lions Bridge) and Deep Creek, then finish at Denbigh boat ramp where some trip planners will have a second vehicle waiting.

    Dagger

Dagger Canoe began in 1989 by four men who all had years of experience in the canoe and kayak business: Roy Guinn with Blue Hole Canoe Company of Sunbright, Tennessee, Peter Jett with Hydra Kayaks of Tennessee, Steve Scarbrough with Dagger Paddle Company, and Joe Pulliam with Perception Kayaks. Bob Taylor, owner and founder of Appomattox River Company, had been paddling buddies and a business associate of all of them. Steve called Bob in late 1988 and explained their plan to form Dagger Canoe Company. Steve's ideas on the 16ft Legend canoe sounded like the ideal open canoe for the Southeast, and Bob placed an order for 60 as soon as they started production. Dagger designed 5 canoe models initially, then after Joe's non-compete clause with Perception expired they started making whitewater kayaks. The Response, Crossfire and RPM were some of the best selling kayaks ever made.

Those that know kayaking know Dagger. Their goal is to represent everything that's great about getting on the water, from the technical aspects of rec and touring to the pure rush of whitewater. This is evident in the variety of people that are proud to call Dagger home and their wide-ranging product line. From the mountains to the sea, you'll see Dagger boats, always pushing to master moving water better than the day before.

Dagger provides great quality at great prices. Their products are put through the ultimate test approval by Team Dagger, who boasts of well known names such as Tao Berman, Brad Ludden and Andrew Holcombe. Dagger owners know that their kayak didn't go into production until it met the standards of Dagger's amazing design team and took the beating of a lifetime their our team paddlers.
